The Hate U Give (2018)

One of my favourite movies wich include the reality of the world today and just the right touch of humour that you need to make this movie great.

Directed by George Tillman Jr.

Written by Angie Thomas

The movie starts with Maverick (Russell Hornsby) explaining to the kids what it means to be black. The next flash we get is Starr (Amandla Stenberg) when she is 16 years old and goes to school. Unlike the kids at Garden Hights the Carter kids go to a white high school. You get a look into Starr’s life. On one of the weekends Starr goes to a party with her friend Kenya (Dominique Fishback) and that is where she sees her long time friend Kahlil (Algee Smith). They hear an alarming sound and run for there life but by doing that the run unknowingly into the death of one. Because of that death there are riots off all kinds and they have to go to court. In all that mess, the Gang of the area, the King Lordes, are threatening Starr and in the end the come to a stand off.

Amandla Stenberg did such a great job impersonating Starr given that she was only 19 when she shot the movie. I feel like she can relate to the situation, wich is sad but true. Through that she puts her hole heart in it.

Russell Hornsby does a great job impersonating the tough father with a soft side for his family and Hornsby really impersonates that really good.

This is my favourite movie/book because I love the humour/storyline. I also love it so much because I truly believe that for some people that is the reality. It also talks about some actual themes in the world. I absolutely love, love, love this movie.
